July 2008 — "This hike seemed to offer a variety of scenery and terrain so we decided to join the masses and do it. Fortunately for us, 'the masses' did not equal what you sometimes find on other popular national park trails so we usually had the trail (what we could see and hear of it - in front and behind us) to ourselves. It's a moderate hike (not too strenuous but more than a stroll), the waterfalls are stunning and the ladder, tunnel and cable at the end of it add a unique characteristic. The mozzies at Crypt Lake were horrific so we turned around and found a nice spot for lunch back on the exposed mountain side with a great view of the 1,000 ft waterfall and a slight breeze, ie. no mozzies! Normally we choose circular hikes rather than hike in/turn around/hike out but the beautiful scenery (it's Waterton afterall) and the diverse terrain (forest floor to mountain switchbacks to high alpine lake) more than made up for this weak point."

Crypt Lake Trail, in Waterton Lakes National Park, is considered one of Canada's top-rated hiking trails. After a boat shuttle across Waterton Lake, hikers set off onto the trail which includes four waterfalls, a natural tunnel and a short cable-assisted ledge portion as well as an assortment of wildlife. The destination of the hike is Crypt Lake, a crystal-clear turquoise-coloured lake at the base of a horse-shoe shaped granite wall.
