"Unprofessional and Unorganized "
May 2008 — "My company vends at festivals all over Western Canada, selling gourmet mustard. Dealing with the Lilac Festival 08 was the worst experience ever. The people running this show were terribly unprofessional and unorganized. I have written several letters outlining my complaints and negative experience but have never received a response from them. I want to warn other vendors not to waste their time and money on this event. We were terribly inconvenienced by a fire retardant regulation for our tent, that we were only notified about 1 week before the event. We had a very difficult time finding the required fire retardant and spent considerable time and money to have our tents meet their regulations. We were never able to contact any of the event organizers in this regard. When we arrived at the festival, no one even checked our tents. We were assigned a terrible spot, in a parking lot at the end of an alley, in spite of the fact that there were many empty lots on 4th street. All in all, this was the worst vending experience ever and I will never be returning."
May 2007 — "What is the point of having a Lilac festival and not having any Lilacs? Ottawa has a Tulip festival and thousands of Tulips, its amazing. I will not be going in 2008."
"Sorry Lilac Lovers"
May 2007 — "I have been the Lilac Fest for the last couple years and I am sad to say that is has gone downhill. Guaranteed it has always been a bit cheesy with hippies showing their wares gathered from abroad and small businesses trying to sell trinkets but it used to be fun. This past year was awful, there was way too many people most of whom were planning to get as drunk as humanely possible. So now it is full of sweaty drunks. Yuck! What happened to the family feel? I say less beer gardens for sure! Sorry Lilac Fest I won't be there next year."
"Way too crowded for me"
May 2006 — "4th Street gets sooooooo crowed during the Lilac Festival that it's almost impossible to walk down the street without running into people, or their dogs, or their strollers, or all three. I used to love this festival, but now I try to avoid it."
The Lilac Festival is a street fair on 4th Street SW (Mission District) put on by area merchants and businesses. Enjoy rock, country, jazz, folk and world music. There is also a Kid's World with a kid's stage, crafts and balloons.
